THE BEAD FAMILY  Nia and Allan with Ed , Johnny, James, Genevieve, Fred and baby Ardie Nia has managed the business from the day of opening in 2004. In 2009 Nia bought the business outright, and has been the sole owner/operator ever since. The beads are Nia’s passion and her career. From a young single woman working 7 days a week in the early years and teaching 3- 4 nights a week to get the business up and running the journey has been unexpected yet very fulfilling. Meeting and marrying a Taranaki farmer/town planner, being a wife and mother to 6 children, moving the bead shop to the provinces, homeschooling all the bead children, and running an ever-growing business, the days have been very full and the beads have seen it all!
 Nia, Niki and Hannah Hannah and Niki are the rest of Team Bead. These lovely and efficient women help pack your orders, restock the shelves, create and package mixes and generally help keep things going smoothly with the beads. Hannah and her husband are dairy farmers with 4 children. Niki lives in town and often pops in to sort things out on our 'off' days! Niki is the mother of 8 adult children with a multitude of grandchildren. As friends and co-workers, we can support each other, be flexible around children and farm jobs and enjoy some company working with and around beautiful colourful things.
The Queen Mum, Mary, pops in regularly to help sort and organise the ever increasing stock and brainstorm new ideas. The bead kids - along with a rotating line up of school holiday workers - do most of the packaging of beads, mixes, findings and kitsets - a much sought after privilege that is a reward once all their schoolwork is done!
Nia hand selects our products from around the world, designs kitsets, maintains the website and creates tutorials as well as supervising the picking and packing of the parcels. We send our beads and findings throughout New Zealand and across the world. Nia finds time to do the accounts, GST and forward planning in the midst of her very full life. Somehow, it all gets done! Our Stratford premises are open to the public on Tuesday mornings 10am -1pm, and we open by appointment on Thursdays. You can shop 24/7 online and we ship on Tuesday and Thursday each week.
